Calculator disclaimer
Take-Home Lab tools and guides are published by Rodway Labs for general information. They are not personalised tax, pension or financial advice. They are not a substitute for your payslip, P60, tax code notice or HMRC Personal Tax Account.
What the calculator models
- 2026/27 income tax on employment income for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or Scottish income tax bands if you select Scotland.
- Employee Class 1 National Insurance on an annual basis (real PAYE NI is calculated per pay period).
- One student loan or postgraduate loan plan at a time.
- A simple workplace pension as either a net pay arrangement or salary sacrifice, as a percentage of gross.
- Personal allowance taper above £100,000.
What it leaves out
Other tax codes, marriage allowance, blind person’s allowance, the High Income Child Benefit Charge, savings and dividend tax, company benefits, court orders, payroll giving, Scottish or Welsh rate quirks beyond the published bands, and employer NI (which does not appear on your payslip as a deduction).
If two results differ from your payslip, trust the payslip and HMRC. Then check hours, tax code, pension scheme type and whether a bonus was paid in that period.
